Why more than one million women have joined the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (NSDAR)…
You’re probably wondering what DAR is all about and why you should join.
Or, maybe you’re wondering if you have a Patriot, someone who served in the Revolutionary War, in your lineage?
There are many reasons to belong to the Daughters of the Amercian Revolution. As an organization with 3,000 chapters across the country, and more than 190,000 women, we make an impact through service. We need you!
We are a Service Organization
First and foremost, we are a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonpolitical women’s service organization. We take pride in serving our communities, schools, churches, military-related organizations, and on preservation projects. Together, we make an impact locally and nationally. Our service projects and volunteer initiatives create stronger communities, making a difference for today’s citizens and future generations. Members choose their level of commitment and volunteer hours.
We Offer Fellowship
All daughters are over the age of 18, and come from all walks-of-life, cultures, religions, professions, backgrounds, and demographics. We share a united interest in serving God, home, and country (the DAR motto). Lasting, life-long friendships are developed through time spent together at events, volunteer projects, and meetings.
We Offer Purpose
What we do matters! To honor our ancestors who fought for our nation’s independence, we are committed to volunteer service as a means to better our local communities. DAR's volunteer work is accomplished by the grassroots efforts of chapters on the local level which focus on the mission areas of Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism. Whether it’s supporting DAR-supported schools, restoring historical landmarks, providing care packages for veterans, or researching genealogy, women in DAR experience a clear and meaningful purpose with their outreach. Volunteerism is conducted through chapter-designated projects or through national committees.
We Offer Skills and Leadership Training
Ample workshops on a variety of skills and leadership training are offered through local and national platforms. Learning opportunities are available on projects which interest DAR members including genealogy, historical preservation, American history, marketing, leadership skills, and more. No experience is necessary. There are opportunities to serve on committees, thus enhancing leadership skills.
We Embrace Your Gifts and Talents
The DAR provides an outlet for sharing creative talents such as quilting, knitting, writing, poetry, and more. There are annual contests for creative work. Creative talents are recognized and celebrated. As an example, the DAR headquarters in Washington, D.C. celebrates the work of past DAR members in the exhibition Dazzling Daughters.
There are two ways to start the journey. Contact our local Plymouth chapter register or visit the National DAR website.
